What a disguise can show
Innocent Glaggles and disguised Enphosians travel in the same crowd toward the statue. On the documented default rules, each disguise has exactly one tell:
- A different skin tone from a real member of that type.
- A fake torso symbol that looks like an uncanny copy.
- A missing torso symbol.
- A missing face.
Compare two arrivals of the same type. A Gazo and a Giggler are supposed to look different, so that difference is not a tell.
Mild is a special case
Smile More changes Mild disguises. On Mild they always combine the fake torso icon and the wrong body color. Do not wait for a single tell on that difficulty.
The Obvious modifier replaces normal disguises with a solid off-color body, no symbol, and a shared poorly drawn face. Dumber keeps his own symbol and face under Obvious. Obvious is a practice shortcut, not the look you should memorize for Smile or Maniac.
A repeatable check
- Find two characters of the same type near each other.
- Check the face first, then the body color, then the torso symbol.
- Stay where you can still see the path to the statue.
- When a disguise breaks, remember the one difference you could actually see.
Winter Sobberland lighting makes brighter Gazo disguises harder to see. If a cue does not match the model in your current run, trust the current model.
After the disguise breaks
Spotting a fake and finishing it are different jobs. Revealed Enphosians play a short animation and cannot be damaged during it. If you are too close when they reveal, both of you are knocked back. Status effects such as slow or fire can carry onto the revealed form.
With at least three players, extra Enphosians in a group walk faster than the innocents they copy. A Gazo matching a Giggler's speed is one documented example. Movement speed alone is a weak test, because Hysteria makes disguised Enphosians walk slightly slower than innocents.
Tells by type
Use the same four-part list for every type, then add the detail that is easy to miss:
| Type | Extra thing to notice |
|---|---|
| Giggler | Wrong symbol has a smaller smile, inward mouth ends, and a shinier, more saturated look. |
| Gazo | Cap and pistol are normal. The wrong symbol is thinner and brighter. |
| Gloober | The sign on the head is normal. The wrong symbol has outward mouth ends and duller color. |
| Gembo | The present is not the problem; the ball and pale red body are the comparison. Wrong symbol is rounder and more saturated. |
| Cheerer | The present blocks the torso, so step to the side before judging a missing symbol. |
| Gleeber | They are larger, with longer legs. Check them early because they are the fastest regular crowd. |
| Glaaber | Largest and slowest. Wrong symbol is browner, with a wider smile and straight black teeth. |
Guuber, Murpleck, Spookler, and Bamella only join when their modifiers are on. Their tells use the same four categories. Dumber is documented as always appearing disguised, and Smile More says Dumber can now be an Enphosian. What a provoked Maniac Dumber does was still unstated.
